The Indonesian Public Opinion Discussion and Study Group (KedaiKOPI) surveyed public opinion regarding royalties in the commercial use of other people's music.

A majority, or 83.8% of respondents, believe that someone is obligated to pay royalties to the institution or songwriter for commercial use.

Next, 9.7% opined that commercial use of a song only requires permission from the original singer.

Then, 4.9% of respondents believed that permission from fans is sufficient to sing the song, and 1.2% felt that anyone is free to sing a song without permission.

This survey also found that royalties are perceived as mandatory for commercial use when sung in a concert (85.5%), played on radio/TV (59%), and uploaded to social media (40.7%).

KedaiKOPI conducted this survey among 1,065 respondents spread across Indonesia, comprising 57.7% male and 42.3% female.

Data collection was conducted from March 27 to April 4, 2025, using the online-computerized assisted self-interview (CASI) method.

Respondents were dominated by millennials at 54.6%, Generation Z at 30.9%, and Generation X at 14.6%.
