Survey: Queen Elizabeth II Remains the Most Popular British Royal

Queen Elizabeth II passed away at Balmoral Castle, Scotland, on Thursday, September 8th, local time. The 96-year-old Queen reigned over the United Kingdom for 70 years.

According to a survey conducted among adults in the United Kingdom in May 2022, the late Queen Elizabeth was the most popular member of the British Royal Family. Elizabeth received the support of 81% of respondents as the most popular figure in the British Royal Family.

The Queen's grandson, Prince William, and his wife Catherine (Kate Middleton), Duchess of Cambridge, were the second and third most favorite members of the British Royal Family, with net positive ratings of 75% and 70%, respectively.

Compared to the number of people who viewed the Queen positively, this remained relatively unchanged, although there were some significant shifts in public opinion for several members of the Royal Family. Specifically, Prince Harry, who was previously one of the most popular royals, has seen a drastic decline in popularity. The number of respondents who liked him dropped from 71% to only 48% in 2020, and to just 39% a year later.

Despite the monarchy experiencing ups and downs, the British Monarchy remains a very popular British institution. British society across all age groups expressed support for the continuation of the monarchy in 2018. Nevertheless, there were differences in support across age groups. Support from those aged 55 and over was greater than that of the 18-24 year-old population. A recorded 77% of the population over 55 supported the British Monarchy, while support from 18-24 year-olds was only 57%.
