Comedy is the Most Popular Film Genre Among Millennials

Comedy is the most preferred film genre among millennials, according to a survey published by Jakpat (Jajak Pendapat) on Friday (January 27th). This genre accounted for 73% of responses.

Close behind is the action genre, with 71%. Millennials also favored drama (65%) and horror (54%).

The survey included a wide range of genres. However, Jakpat noted that action and comedy were the two most popular genres among three different generations: millennials, Gen X, and Gen Z.

"Millennials have a more varied range of favorite genres, such as horror, anime, thriller, fiction, children's and family films, and reality shows," Jakpat wrote in its report.

The survey on favorite film genres involved 1,109 respondents who answered online via the Jakpat mobile application. Data was collected monthly throughout 2022. The margin of error is below 3%.

Jakpat did not define the age ranges for the three generations but grouped them by age: 15-19 years old (18% of respondents), 20-24 (20%), 25-29 (17%), 30-34 (15%), 35-39 (15%), and 40-45 (16%).
