PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BSI) reported a net profit of Rp4.2 trillion (approximately US$275 million) in September 2023.

According to *Katadata*, BSI President Director Hery Gunardi stated that this positive performance was supported by financing of Rp232 trillion, a 15.94% year-on-year increase. This also boosted the bank's assets by 14.23% to Rp320 trillion in September 2023.
The company, listed under the stock code BRIS, also recorded Rp262 trillion in third-party funds (DPK). Hery mentioned that DPK grew by 6.91% year-on-year, with savings accounts accounting for 43.89% or Rp115 trillion of this amount.
Cybersecurity Incident
BRIS's strong performance comes despite a cybersecurity incident in May 2023. BSI's services were disrupted for several days, and data was allegedly leaked and circulated on the dark web by the Russian hacking group LockBit.
Singapore-based cybersecurity firm Fusion Intelligence Center @ DarkTracer posted screenshots of leaked BSI data on its Twitter account.
The leaked data included operational data, funding and transaction information, and BSI's database, which was reportedly accessed from March 8 to May 15, 2023.
The service disruption also led to a reshuffle in the board of directors. This reshuffle was decided during BSI's Annual General Meeting of Shareholders (RUPST) held on Monday, May 22, 2023.
The meeting removed Achmad Syafii from his position as Director of Information Technology, replacing him with Saladin D. Effendi. BSI's Director of Risk Management, Tiwul Widyastuti, was also dismissed, with Grandhis taking over her position.
