The Financial Services Authority (OJK) confirms that two public banks, PT Bank MNC International Tbk (BABP) and PT Bank Nationalnobu Tbk (NOBU), will merge. The merger application has been received by the OJK.
OJK Banking Supervisory Executive Head Dian Ediana Rae stated that the merger process is underway, with a dedicated merger team already in place. Both banks are currently undertaking the steps necessary to realize the merger.
"I think it's excellent that MNC is merging with Nobu; they have quite strong ecosystems. This will certainly strengthen both MNC and Lippo's businesses, two very powerful conglomerates," she said in an OJK press conference reported by *Katadata* on Monday, February 27, 2023.
Aside from the merger news, what are the market capitalization and share values of the two banks?
Data from the RTI Business application shows that Bank MNC's market capitalization is actually larger than Bank Nobu's, reaching Rp3.48 trillion as of Tuesday, February 28, 2023.
The bank's share price is Rp91 per share, with shares trading between Rp94 and Rp107 per share.
Currently, 520 million shares have been traded with a frequency of 14,397 times. The transaction value reached Rp54 billion.
The share composition is held by PT MNC Kapital Indonesia Tbk as the controlling shareholder (52.37% of total shares), Winfly LTD (13.95%), and the public (33.68%).
For Bank Nobu, the market capitalization is Rp2.6 trillion. The share price was Rp520 as of Tuesday, February 28, 2023. Bank Nobu shares are traded between Rp520 and Rp620.
The volume of shares traded amounted to 4.14 million shares with a frequency of 1,087 times. The transaction value reached Rp2.42 billion.
Bank Nobu's shareholders include PT Putera Mulia Indonesia as the controlling shareholder (23.88%), PT Prima Cakrawala Sentosa (18.88%), PT Matahari Department Store Tbk (15.82%), OCBC Securities PTE LTD (11.22%), Nomura Securities (9.31%), PT Lippo General Insurance Tbk (7.33%), and the public (13.56%).
Bank MNC is a bank from the MNC Group, a company owned by businessman Hary Tanoesoedibjo. Previously, MNC Group acquired PT Bank ICB Bumiputera Tbk and changed its name to MNC Bank in 2014.
Meanwhile, Bank Nobu, under the Lippo family, was originally named PT Bank Alfindo Sejahtera. In 2010, the bank changed its name to PT Bank Nationalnobu.
