A stock index is a statistical measure that reflects the price movements of a group of stocks.
According to the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), a stock index can serve as a tool to measure market sentiment, and can also be used as a benchmark for evaluating investment performance.
"For example, when investors have a mandate to invest in stocks within the financial sector, the more appropriate benchmark to use is the financial sector index, not the Jakarta Composite Index (JCI)," said the IDX in its IDX Stock Index Handbook.
Throughout 2025, the best-performing sectoral stock index on the IDX was the technology sector.
From the beginning of the year until December 30, 2025, the technology sector stock index (IDXTECHNO) increased by 138.35% (year-to-date/ytd).
Some examples of large-asset technology sector issuers in Indonesia include Elang Mahkota Teknologi (EMTK), GoTo Gojek Tokopedia (GOTO), Bukalapak (BUKA), Global Digital Niaga (BELI), Metrodata Electronics (MTDL), DCI Indonesia (DCII), and Solusi Sinergi Digital (WIFI).

From the beginning of the year until December 30, 2025, the primary consumer goods sector stock index (IDXNONCYC) only increased by 9.64% (year-to-date/ytd), the lowest compared to other sectors.
