Private External Debt Reached Rp 3,003.8 Trillion in June 2021

Based on Bank Indonesia's (BI) Foreign Debt Statistics (SULNI) report, private sector foreign debt (ULN) amounted to US$207.21 billion, or Rp3,003.81 trillion (using an exchange rate of Rp14,496/US$), in June 2021. This figure represents a 1% decrease compared to the previous month (month-to-month/m-to-m).

Compared to June 2020, the private sector's foreign debt (ULN) also decreased by 0.45% (year-on-year/yoy). However, compared to the end of last year, it increased by 0.01% (year-to-date/ytd).

Private sector ULN originating from financial institutions totaled US$42.3 billion, or 20.42%. Meanwhile, private sector ULN from non-financial corporations reached US$164.91 billion, or 79.58%.

A detailed breakdown shows that ULN from financial institutions comprises debt from banks and non-bank financial institutions. Bank debt reached US$33.21 billion, while debt from non-bank financial institutions reached US$9.09 billion.

ULN from non-financial corporations consists of debt from State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) amounting to US$47.66 billion, foreign private entities US$20.4 billion, mixed private entities US$53.66 billion, and domestic private entities US$43.2 billion.

In addition to the private sector, Indonesia's ULN from the government amounted to US$205.03 billion in June 2021. Furthermore, Indonesia's ULN from the central bank reached US$2.83 billion. Therefore, Indonesia's total ULN reached US$415.08 billion in the first half of 2021.
