After the Increase in Import Tariffs, the Indonesian Stock Exchange (IHSG) Closed Lower (Monday, February 3, 2025)

The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) fell 1.11% to 7,030.06 at the close of trading on Monday (February 3, 2025).

In line with the JCI, Asian markets fell across the board this afternoon. The Nikkei Index fell 2.66% to 38,520.09; the Hang Seng Index fell 0.03% to 20,217.26; the Shanghai Index fell 0.06% to 3,250.60; and the Straits Times Index fell 0.76% to 3,826.47.

"The JCI and regional Asian exchanges weakened in line with US President Donald Trump's policy regarding the imposition of tariffs," wrote Pilarmas Investindo Sekuritas in its analysis, as reported by Antara (February 3, 2025).

Previously, on Saturday (February 1, 2025), Trump announced a new import tariff policy of 25% on products from Canada and Mexico, and a 10% tariff on goods from China entering the US. This policy will take effect starting Tuesday (February 4, 2025).

Based on the IDX-IC Sectoral Index, 10 out of 11 domestic stock sectors were corrected today. The health sector fell the most, by 2.68%, followed by the basic materials and property sectors, which fell 1.76% and 1.75% respectively.

The only sector to strengthen today was the technology sector, with a 1.90% increase.

According to RTI Business data, the frequency of stock trading on the domestic exchange today was 1.25 million transactions.

A total of 15.78 billion shares changed hands, with a total transaction value of Rp 11.69 trillion.

461 stocks closed lower today, 174 stocks were stagnant, and 168 stocks strengthened.

The issuer with the code OBAT was the top loser today after plunging 24.06%, followed by UFOE and BEBS, which fell 15.63% and 14.29% respectively.

On the other hand, the top gainer today was KOKA, which soared 34.15%, followed by SHID and SMDM, which rose 25% and 24.58% respectively.
