Indonesia's Stock Exchange (IHSG) Weakens Amidst Escalating Ukraine-Russia Conflict (Thursday, November 21, 2024)

The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) fell 0.55% to 7,140.91 at the close of trading on Thursday (21/11/2024). This weakening occurred amid escalating tensions between Ukraine and Russia.

"The market appears to be influenced by the escalation of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, with the market anxious after Ukraine launched British-made Storm Shadow cruise missiles into Russia," said the research team at Pilarmas Investindo Sekuritas, as reported by Antara, Thursday (21/11/2024).

Based on the IDX-IC Sectoral Index, seven domestic stock sectors were corrected today. The primary consumer goods sector fell the most, by 0.92%, followed by the finance and property sectors, which corrected by 0.80% and 0.77%, respectively.

Meanwhile, four other sectors strengthened, with the infrastructure sector leading with a 0.94% increase. Then the health and technology sectors rose by 0.41% and 0.27%, respectively.

According to RTI Business data, the frequency of stock trading on the domestic exchange today was 1.12 million transactions.

A total of 17 billion shares changed hands, with a total transaction value of Rp9.82 trillion.

316 stocks closed lower today, 244 stocks were stagnant, and 231 stocks strengthened.

The issuer with the code JMAS was the top loser today after falling 8.97%, followed by BDKR and MPPA, which fell 7.34% and 6.17%, respectively.

On the other hand, the top gainer today was LMPI, which soared 35%, followed by KETR and VICO, which rose 34.94% and 34.83%, respectively.

In line with the IHSG, the majority of Asian stock exchanges this afternoon were in the red. The Nikkei Index fell 0.85% to 38,026.2; the Hang Seng Index fell 0.53% to 19,601.11; the Strait Times Index fell 0.12% to 3,739.22; while the Shanghai Index rose slightly by 0.07% to 3,370.4.
