GOTO Closes Gojek Operations in Vietnam
PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk (GOTO) announced it will cease Gojek's operational activities in Vietnam on September 16, 2024. According to *Katadata*, GOTO management explained that the company has made a strategic business decision to sharpen its focus on developing and strengthening operational activities that can deliver significant and sustainable growth potential.
"This is in line with GoTo's commitment to driving long-term business growth," wrote GOTO management on Wednesday (September 4, 2024).
Analysts believe this decision will have a positive impact on the company's performance, potentially reducing existing losses.
MNC Securities analyst Rudy Setiawan said that GOTO's closure of its on-demand service (ODS) business in Vietnam could accelerate the company's achievement of its profitability targets. This move is expected to allow GOTO to focus more on improving service quality in Indonesia.
“GOTO's digital ecosystem in Indonesia is already complete. ODS is complemented by fintech and also partners with e-commerce. The potential for cross-selling between business units allows for more optimal monetization and is positive for the bottom line,” said Rudy in his official statement on Thursday (April 9, 2024).
Rudy also explained that GOTO has a strong foundation in Indonesia, understanding consumer characteristics. Specifically in the ODS segment, he cited the innovation of the HEMAT service. With HEMAT, GOTO's customer base has grown double digits both quarterly and annually. Not only that, but driver productivity has also increased.
"With the larger, more profitable Indonesian market and GOTO's market-leading position, it is sufficient to lead GOTO to profitability with a more focused and targeted approach," he said.
