BPS: Number of Poor People in West Kalimantan Decreases by 0.89 Percent (December 2023 Data)

The number of poor people in West Kalimantan in December 2023 decreased by 3,160 to 353,350 compared to September 2022. However, compared to March 2022, the number of poor people increased from 350,250.

This decrease in the number of poor people in the province also impacted the poverty rate.

The poverty rate in West Kalimantan in March 2023 decreased to 6.71 percent compared to September 2022. Over the last eight semesters, the poverty rate has shown a downward trend, continuing the previous semester's declining trend.

Based on region, the number of poor people decreased to 353,350 in March 2023 compared to September 2022, but was higher than in March 2022. The number of poor people in urban areas decreased by 2,420 to 87,390 in March 2023. The number of poor people in rural areas was recorded at 265,960.

Poverty conditions in West Kalimantan are calculated based on the food and non-food poverty line, recorded at Rp 520,660 per capita/month. According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), this latest poverty line is detailed as Rp 425,770 per capita/month for food needs and Rp 137,520 per capita/month for non-food needs.

The poverty line for rural areas is Rp 538,990 per capita/month; Rp 413,140 per capita/month for food and Rp 157,020 per capita/month for non-food. Meanwhile, the poverty line in urban areas is Rp 605,690 per capita/month; Rp 448,660 per capita/month for food and Rp 157,020 per capita/month for non-food.
