Today's Composite Index Closed Slightly Up at 328.79 (Monday, September 20th)

Domestic market players adopted a wait-and-see approach regarding the clarity of the US government's tapering policy (liquidity tightening). This impacted the Indonesian Rupiah, which remained stagnant at the psychological level of 14,000 per US dollar, and caused a decline in stock prices.

Domestic bond market players also refrained from reinvesting in government bonds, which had previously been highly sought after by investors. Corporate bonds now attract investor interest, resulting in a positive closing for the bond index.

According to the Indonesian Exchange Rate Assessor (PHEI), the Indonesia Composite Bond Index (ICBI) closed up 0.0017 points (0.0%) at 328.7945 on Monday, September 20, 2021.

Details: The INDOBeX Composite Clean Price closed down 0.0227 points (0.02%) at 121.1558. Similarly, the INDOBeX Effective Yield decreased by 0.0047 points (0.08%) to 5.8198.

The INDOBeX Corporate Total Return Index rose 0.3224 points (0.09%) to 358.7242. The INDOBeX Government Total Return Index closed down 0.0191 points (0.01%) at 322.4908.

If the US government implements liquidity tightening, US dollars held globally will return to the United States. This will likely strengthen the US dollar due to limited supply in the market, resulting in pressure on global and regional currencies, including the Rupiah. This is the concern of global financial market players.

Citing Bloomberg data, the Rupiah closed at Rp 14,242.5 per US dollar today, weakening by Rp 20/dollar (0.14%) from Friday's closing of Rp 14,222.5 per US dollar.

From the stock exchange, the Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) closed at 6,076.32, down 56.93 points (0.93%) from the previous weekend's closing of 6,133.25.
