The Indonesian government has issued three series of green retail sukuk (Syariah-compliant bonds) between 2019 and 2021.
These three issuances have successfully raised Rp11.8 trillion (approximately US$800 million) from domestic retail investors.
The first issuance of green retail sukuk took place in November 2019, raising Rp1.4 trillion.
The amount raised then significantly increased to Rp5.4 trillion in 2020 and Rp5 trillion in 2021.
In addition to green retail sukuk, the government also issues green sukuk in the global market. Since 2018, total funds raised from government-issued green bonds have reached US$4.33 billion, or approximately Rp62 trillion.
These funds are used to finance green infrastructure projects, including green energy (geothermal, solar, hydropower, and others), public transportation, water provision, and sustainable waste management.
