Shrimp Became the Main Export Commodity of Fishery Products in 2020

The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) reported that the volume of fishery product exports reached 1.26 billion kilograms (kg) with a value of US$5.2 billion in 2020. Shrimp was the largest export commodity with a volume of 239.28 million kg and a value of US$2.04 billion.

Shrimp export volume increased by 28.96% compared to 2019, which amounted to 207.70 million kg. Shrimp also contributed 18.95% to the total volume of fishery product exports last year.

Tuna, skipjack, and cakalang (a type of tuna) were in second place with export volumes reaching 195.76 million kg in 2020, up 5.9% from the previous year's 184.12 million kg. These commodities contributed 15.5% of the total volume of fishery product exports.

Seaweed exports amounted to 195.57 million kg in 2020, down 6.9% from the previous year's 209.24 million kg. Seaweed contributed 15.49% to the total volume of fishery product exports.

Exports of squid, cuttlefish, and octopus were recorded at 140.03 million kg last year, down 2.7% compared to 2019, which reached 143.84 million kg. These commodities contributed 11.09% to the total volume of fishery product exports.

Indonesia also exported swimming crabs and crabs totaling 27.61 million kg in 2020, down 6.04% from the previous year. Swimming crabs and crabs contributed 2.19% to the total volume of fishery product exports.

Meanwhile, the export volume of other fishery products amounted to 464.58 million kg last year, increasing by 11.03% from 2019's 413.32 million kg. Other commodities contributed 36.79% to the total volume of fishery product exports.
