Top 10 Countries with the Largest Uranium Reserves in the World

Uranium is a raw material used as an energy source, namely nuclear power. Uranium has provided fuel for nuclear power plants for over 60 years. To date, nuclear power has supplied 10% of global energy needs.

According to the World Nuclear Association, total global uranium reserves are estimated at 6.14 million tons, with production reaching 54,700 tons in 2019. This production level met 81% of global demand.

Countries with the largest uranium reserves:

1. Australia: 1.7 million tons
2. Kazakhstan: 906,800 tons
3. Canada: 564,900 tons
4. Russia: 486,000 tons
5. Namibia: 448,300 tons

Australia is recorded as having the world's largest uranium reserves, at 1.69 million tons, controlling 28% of total global uranium reserves in 2019. Kazakhstan follows in second place with 906,800 tons, or 15% of global reserves.

Canada is in third place with uranium reserves of 564,900 tons, or 9% of global reserves. Next is Russia with uranium reserves of 486,000 tons, or 8% of global reserves, and Namibia with 448,400 tons, or 7% of global reserves.

Although Australia has the largest uranium reserves, its production remains below that of Kazakhstan and Canada. This is due to restrictions on uranium mining activities imposed by the Australian government, as well as political issues surrounding uranium mining.
