According to data from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), Indonesia's total fisheries production value in 2023 reached Rp434.44 trillion.
This figure comprises a capture fisheries production value of Rp229.06 trillion and aquaculture production of Rp205.38 trillion.
Capture fisheries production is the result of catches from natural environments, such as the sea, rivers, reservoirs, and so on.
Aquaculture production, on the other hand, is the harvest from controlled environments, such as floating net cages at sea, or ponds and fish farms in inland waters.
Indonesia's capture fisheries production value tends to be higher than that of aquaculture, as shown in the graph.
However, the volume of capture fisheries production is significantly smaller.
During the 2017-2023 period, capture fisheries contributed only about 30-35% to the total volume of national fisheries production. Aquaculture contributed approximately 65-70%.
