Astra's Profits Shrink for the Third Time in 2015

In 2015, PT Astra International Tbk recorded a net profit of Rp 14.46 trillion, a decrease of 24.59 percent from the previous year's Rp 19.18 trillion. This marks the third consecutive year of decline since 2013. The slowing domestic economy and global financial uncertainty directly impacted the performance of this Astra Group parent company.

The fall in plantation commodity prices due to weak demand caused the profit of its subsidiaries in the agribusiness sector to plummet by 75 percent to Rp 493 billion from Rp 1.99 trillion in the previous year. Of the six Astra Group business lines, only the information technology sector managed to record a profit.

The automotive sector remained the main contributor to the company's profit, reaching Rp 8.49 trillion. Financial services came in second, contributing Rp 4.75 trillion in profit. The heavy equipment and mining sector ranked third, contributing Rp 3.26 trillion in profit.
