Research by Onepoll reveals that a significant portion of the global population altered their eating habits during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic quarantine.
Across various countries surveyed, 41% of respondents reported changing their diets, believing such changes to be necessary.
Onepoll cites improved health and weight loss as key motivators for these dietary shifts. Cost savings were also cited by some respondents.
Among those who changed their diets, reducing sugary foods and snacks was the primary goal. This group, representing 43% of respondents, also focused on eating less meat and consuming more fruits and vegetables.
Furthermore, 46% of respondents indicated openness to a vegan diet, while 25% disagreed with adopting a vegan diet in the future.
Impact of Dietary Changes
Onepoll claims that 82% of respondents reported improved health following their dietary changes.
The shift to working from home (WFH) also enabled 84% of respondents to find the time, space, and motivation to maintain their new habits.
This online research involved 28,000 respondents across 30 countries, including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, France, Greece, Guatemala, Indonesia, Honduras, Japan, Mexico, the Philippines, Spain, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Vietnam. The research, conducted in collaboration with the global nutrition company Herbalife, was published around October 16, 2020.
