Japanese alcoholic beverage producer Kirin Holdings released a report titled *Global Beer Consumption Report for 2021*. The report reveals that global beer consumption reached 185.6 million kiloliters (kl) in 2021.
This figure represents a 4% increase year-on-year (YoY). Global beer consumption in 2020 was 178.46 million kl.
This increase indicates an economic recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic, after most countries experienced a decline in beer consumption in 2020.
Kirin Holdings notes that China has ranked first in the world for highest beer consumption for 19 consecutive years, since 2003.
In 2021, China consumed 38.09 million kl of beer.
This figure represents a 5.6% YoY increase from the previous consumption of 36.08 million kl in 2020.
The United States followed in second place with the highest beer consumption in the world, at 24.17 million kl. Brazil followed with 14.54 million kl of beer consumed in 2021.
Other Asian countries included in this list are Vietnam and Japan, with beer consumption figures of 4.15 million kl and 4.13 million kl respectively.
