The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has blocked 2,481 illegal online loan applications (pinjol) from January 1, 2023, to February 13, 2024.

Details show that 2,248 illegal pinjol were blocked in 2023, and 233 were blocked during the first month and a half of this year.

The OJK has also received 3,121 complaints related to illegal pinjol from the beginning of this year until February 26, 2024.

Furthermore, 175 complaints related to illegal investments were received by the OJK during the same period.

According to Friderica Widyasari Dewi, Executive Head of the OJK's Supervision of Financial Services Business Actors' Behavior, Education, and Consumer Protection, the prevalence of illegal pinjol is due to the low level of public financial literacy.

Friderica also stated that many illegal pinjol use servers located overseas.

She ensured that the OJK will continue to trace the parties who create applications that violate regulations, through cooperation with the Ministry of Communication and Information's cyber team and Electronic System Organizers (PSE) such as Google and Meta.
