Celebrity couple Raffi Ahmad and Nagita Slavina received an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) as a gift from PT Bank Negara Indonesia Tbk (BNI). This gift caused a sensation on social media.
In response, Raffi admitted that the ATM gift was merely a marketing gimmick. "But in reality, Nagita and I are semi-brand ambassadors for BNI," said Raffi in a voice recording received by Katadata.
According to data from Bank Indonesia (BI), as of September 2021, there were 99,260 Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) throughout Indonesia. Of this number, 62,560 units, or about 63%, were located on the island of Java.

During the January-September 2021 period, the number of ATMs throughout Indonesia decreased by 5,390 units, or 5.15% (year-to-date/ytd).
The number of ATMs in Java decreased by 4,260 units (6.37%), followed by Sumatra with a decrease of 610 units (3.61%), and Bali and Nusa Tenggara with a decrease of 263 units (4.79%).
Furthermore, the number of ATMs in Kalimantan decreased by 142 units (2.09%), Sulawesi decreased by 73 units (1.15%), and Maluku and Papua also decreased by 48 units (2.04%).
This decrease in the number of ATMs is occurring in line with changing lifestyles, as people are increasingly accustomed to conducting banking transactions through internet banking, mobile banking, electronic money, or digital wallets.
