Indonesia's Capital Market Investors Reach 9.54 Million by the End of August 2022

The number of capital market investors in Indonesia continues to grow. Based on a report from the Indonesia Central Securities Depository (KSEI), retail capital market investors in the country reached 9.54 million people as of August 2022.

This figure is up 27.38% compared to the end of December 2021 (year-to-date/ytd). Throughout 2021, the number of capital market investors was recorded at 7.48 million people.

In fact, the number of capital market investors as of August 2022 has grown by 284% compared to the end of 2019, which was only 2.48 million people.

Based on age, the majority of capital market investors are dominated by the millennial and Gen Z age groups. A total of 59.22% of domestic capital market investors are under 30 years old.

Seeing this trend, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) is optimistic that capital market investors can continue to grow until the end of 2022. "Hopefully, by the end of the year, we can reach 10 million SID (single investor identification)," said OJK Capital Market Supervisory Executive Head Inarno Djajadi, as quoted from Kontan.co.id, Tuesday (4/10).

There are a number of investment instruments in the capital market that the public can utilize. For example, stocks, mutual funds, securities crowdfunding, and others.

However, the OJK urges prospective investors to remain vigilant when investing in the capital market. First, remember that every investment has benefits and risks.

Second, don't be easily tempted by investment offers that promise guaranteed, high, and quick returns. Third, ensure that the product and the party offering the investment have permission from the OJK.

Fourth, invest using "cold money" or extra money. Do not use daily needs funds or borrow money to invest. Because investments can be profitable or loss-making, while loan repayments are certain.
