How Much PayLater Credit Do Indonesian Consumers Apply For Monthly? This is the Survey

The Populix survey, titled *Unveiling Indonesia’s Financial Evolution: Fintech Lending and Paylater Adoption*, reveals the average amount of paylater loans Indonesians typically apply for each month.

The survey results show that the majority, or 75% of respondents, apply for paylater loans of less than Rp1 million per month.

The next largest amount of paylater loans is between Rp2 million and Rp3 million per month, with 17% of respondents.

Furthermore, 4% of respondents apply for paylater loans between Rp3 million and Rp4 million, and 3% apply for loans between Rp4 million and Rp5 million per month.

Only 1% of respondents apply for paylater loans exceeding Rp5 million per month.

"This behavior (paylater value) indicates that individuals prefer to manage their finances with smaller installment amounts, likely to ensure their monthly budgets remain manageable," Populix wrote in its report.

This survey was conducted from September 15-18, 2023, involving 555 respondents who use paylater services and are spread across various regions in Indonesia. The respondents comprised 51% women and 49% men.

The majority of respondents are located on Java Island (79%), followed by Sumatra Island (12%), and other islands (9%). By age, respondents were dominated by the 17-25 age group (55%) and the 26-35 age group (31%).
