Electronic waste or e-waste is the most commonly found hazardous and toxic waste (B3) from households in Jakarta. This is according to data from the Jakarta Environmental Agency (DLH DKI Jakarta), which shows that this type of waste contributed 14,200 kilograms (kg) between January and August 2022.

The next largest contributor was tin cans at 11,400 kg, followed by plastic packaging at 5,200 kg. Medical waste followed with a volume of 1,800 kg, then used lamps at 1,040 kg, and finally batteries at 140.2 kg.

The DLH DKI Jakarta actually provides a free e-waste management service for Jakarta residents.

According to RM.id, the Head of the Jakarta Environmental Agency, Asep Kuswanto, explained that applicants can apply online through the website https://lingkunganhidup.jakarta.go.id or via the Jakarta Environmental Agency's Facebook account.

"On the website and Facebook, applicants will be directed to fill out data in a Google Form. Applicants must be Jakarta residents," said Asep, as quoted on Monday (7/8/2023).

Asep added that the minimum weight of electronic waste for pickup is 5 kg.

Electronic waste is classified as B3 waste generated from various sectors.

"E-waste can originate from households and also from activities such as offices, schools, hotels, apartments, and others," said Asep.
