Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK): Number of Hotspots in Indonesia Reaches 99 in the Last 24 Hours (Saturday, December 2, 2023)

Based on the forest and land fire monitoring system SiPongi of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), the last 24-hour monitoring shows 99 hotspots detected in Indonesia. This number is a decrease of 247 hotspots compared to the previous period.

This data is the result of satellite imagery from Terra/Aqua, SNPP, and NOAA accessed on Saturday (2/12/2023) at 13.41 WIB. Of the 99 hotspots detected, 2 have a high confidence level, 94 are medium, and 3 are low.

The hotspot confidence level is divided into 3 scales: low (0-29), medium (30-79), and high (80-100). The higher the confidence level, the higher the likelihood of a forest and land fire in that area.

The highest number of hotspots was detected in North Maluku with 26. South Sulawesi is second with 18 hotspots, followed by East Kalimantan with 15.

Nine hotspots were detected in Southeast Sulawesi, followed by Central Sulawesi with 8, and Papua and South Kalimantan each with 6 and 3 hotspots, respectively.

A hotspot is a coordinate point of an area with a higher surface temperature than its surroundings and does not represent the number of forest and land fire incidents.

However, a large number of hotspots clustered in one area indicates forest and land fires. This means that hotspot data from remote sensing satellites remains the most effective method for monitoring forest and land fires over large areas.
