4.9 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Cilacap Region

A magnitude (M) 4.9 earthquake struck Cilacap. The epicenter was at sea. "The earthquake's epicenter was 77 km southeast of Cilacap at sea, and this earthquake is felt and should be relayed to the public," wrote BMKG (Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency) on its official website, April 22, 2024.

The earthquake occurred at 00:48:02. It was located at a depth of 39.0 kilometers and did not have the potential to cause a tsunami. The earthquake's coordinates were 8.38° S (South Latitude) and 109.24° E (East Longitude).

The earthquake was felt on the MMI scale in Pangandaran, Ciamis, Bantul, Cilacap, Kebumen, and Banjarnegara with intensities of III, III, II, II, II, and II respectively. An MMI scale of II means the earthquake was not felt or was felt only by a few people but was recorded by instruments.
