BMKG: Recent Earthquake Northeast of Bandung Regency, Magnitude 4.2, No Tsunami Potential

A 4.2 magnitude (M) earthquake struck Bandung Regency. The earthquake's epicenter was inland. "The epicenter was located 20 km southeast of Bandung Regency, and this earthquake was felt and should be relayed to the public," wrote BMKG (Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency) on its official website, May 1, 2024.

The earthquake occurred at 03:06:10. It was at a depth of 4.0 kilometers and did not have the potential to cause a tsunami. The earthquake's coordinates were 7.20°S (South Latitude) and 107.57°E (East Longitude).

The earthquake was felt on the MMI scale in Majalaya, Cibereum, Pangalengan, Garut, and Soreang with intensities of III, III, III, III, and II respectively. An MMI scale of III means the earthquake was felt by some people but did not cause damage or accidents. Light hanging objects swayed, and window panes vibrated.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded nine significant earthquakes felt by the public across Indonesia in the past week, varying in magnitude and depth.
