Recent 4.5 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Sumedang Regency

A 4.5 magnitude (M) earthquake struck Sumedang Regency. The epicenter was inland. "The earthquake's epicenter was 4 km north of Sumedang Regency and was felt; this information is to be relayed to the public," wrote BMKG (Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency) on its official website on January 1, 2024.

The earthquake occurred at 13:46:48. It had a depth of 10.0 kilometers and posed no tsunami threat. The earthquake's coordinates were 6.82°S (South Latitude) and 107.92°E (East Longitude).

The earthquake was felt on the MMI scale in Rancakalong, Jatinangor, Bandung, Cirebon, Garut, and Subang with intensities of III, III, III, II, II, and II respectively. An MMI scale of II means the earthquake was not felt or was felt only by a few people but was recorded by instruments.
