Recent 4.6 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Sukabumi Regency

A recent earthquake measuring 4.6 magnitude struck Sukabumi Regency on May 20, 2024. According to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake's epicenter was located in the sea, approximately 79 kilometers southwest of Sukabumi Regency.

"Earthquake felt, Magnitude: 4.6 on May 20, 2024, 13:42:24," BMKG wrote in its release. The earthquake occurred at coordinates 7.69°S (South Latitude) and 106.42°E (East Longitude).

The earthquake was felt on the Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale in several areas, including Sindangbarang, Nagrak, Cibinong, Cipamingkis, Surade, Jampang, Cigaru, Simpenan, and other parts of the Regency, with intensities of III, III, III, III, III, III, II-III, II-III, and II-III respectively. One of the MMI scales felt was III, meaning the earthquake was felt by several people but did not cause damage or casualties. Light hanging objects swayed, and window panes vibrated.
