Based on data from Magma Indonesia, there were 436 eruptions from active volcanoes in Indonesia as of 11:50 WIB (Western Indonesian Time) on December 15, 2023.
Mount Anak Krakatau recorded the highest number of eruptions this year, with a total of 136 eruptions.
The latest report from Magma Indonesia states that this volcano, located in Lampung, again erupted volcanic ash approximately ±300 meters from the summit or ±457 meters above sea level at 09:29 WIB on Friday, December 15, 2023.
The eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 49 millimeters and a duration of 15 seconds. The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the north sea.
The Head of the Mount Anak Krakatau Monitoring Post in Hargopancuran, Rajabasa District, South Lampung, Andi Suardi, said that Mount Anak Krakatau is currently at level III or alert status.
"Currently, Mount Anak Krakatau is at level III or alert status, with a recommendation that the public, fishermen, and mountain climbers not approach the mountain within a five-kilometer radius," he said, as reported by CNN Indonesia on Friday, December 15, 2023.
Besides Mount Anak Krakatau, Mount Ili Lewotok in East Nusa Tenggara recorded 108 eruptions.
This was followed by Mount Ibu in North Maluku, with a total of 60 eruptions until June 2023.
