4.7 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Pohuwato, Gorontalo

A recent earthquake measuring 4.7 magnitude struck Pohuwato, Gorontalo on May 21, 2024. According to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) release, the earthquake's epicenter was located on land, approximately 42 kilometers northeast of Pohuwato, Gorontalo.

"Earthquake felt, Magnitude: 4.7 on May 21, 2024 at 05:16:46," BMKG wrote in its release. The earthquake occurred at coordinates 0.84°N (North Latitude) and 121.97°E (East Longitude).

The earthquake was felt on the Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale in several areas, including Pohuwato, with a scale of II-III. One of the MMI scales felt was II, meaning the earthquake was not felt or was felt only by a few people but was recorded by instruments.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded five significant earthquakes felt by the public across Indonesia in the past week, varying in magnitude and depth.
