South Korean entertainment products are widely popular in Indonesia, including K-Pop music and K-Drama television series.

According to a report by the Katadata Insight Center (KIC) in collaboration with Zigi.id, out of approximately one thousand surveyed individuals, a majority or 10.9% of respondents experienced the "Korean fever" or started to enjoy South Korean entertainment since the beginning of the 2020 pandemic.

The wave of "Korean fever" had already been strengthening during the 2015-2019 period. During this period, more than 5% of respondents each year started liking South Korean entertainment, an increase compared to previous years, as shown in the graph.

Tracing back further, the number of South Korean entertainment fans in Indonesia is estimated to have first grown significantly in 2010 with a percentage of new fans at 7.1%, a significant increase from the previous year's 3.3%.

"That year marked the heyday of the second generation of K-Pop groups such as Wonder Girls, SNSD, Super Junior, 2NE1, BIGBANG, and others," the survey explains.

The KIC survey involved 1,609 respondents, dominated by Generation Z (65.1%). In terms of gender, the majority or 69.9% of respondents were female, while male respondents constituted only 30.1%.
