Survey Indicator: Young People Most Concerned About Increasing Extreme Weather

According to a survey by Indikator Politik Indonesia, the majority, or 21%, of young Indonesians are most worried about the increase in extreme weather currently and in the future. This is because it will cause a number of other natural disasters, such as typhoons, floods, or droughts.

Twenty percent of respondents are most concerned about health issues now and in the future. Fourteen percent are worried about the accumulation of waste and plastic materials.

Another 14% of respondents are most concerned about deforestation. Nine percent are most worried about food shortages.

Seven percent of respondents each expressed the most concern about the depletion of natural resources and air pollution. Four percent are most worried about rising sea levels.

Three percent of respondents are most concerned about rising temperatures in their surroundings. Meanwhile, 1% are most worried about the decline in biodiversity.

Indikator conducted this survey using a stratified multistage random sampling method with 3,020 respondents aged 17 to 35 years from September 9-16, 2021. The response rate was 3,623 people, or 90.1% of the total respondents.
