232 Hotspots Detected in Indonesia in the Last 24 Hours (Monday, February 26, 2024)

Based on the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry's (KLHK) SiPongi forest and land fire monitoring system, 24-hour monitoring shows 232 hotspots detected in Indonesia. This is a decrease of 219 hotspots compared to the previous period.

This data is from satellite imagery from Terra/Aqua, SNPP, and NOAA, accessed on Monday (26/2/2024) at 08.51 WIB. Of the 232 hotspots detected, 11 have a high confidence level, 205 are medium, and 16 are low.

Hotspot confidence levels are divided into three scales: low (0-29), medium (30-79), and high (80-100). The higher the confidence level, the greater the likelihood of forest and land fires in that area.

The highest number of hotspots were detected in East Kalimantan (81). North Maluku is second with 31 hotspots, followed by Central Sulawesi with 27.

Sixteen hotspots were detected in South Sulawesi, 15 in Aceh, 14 in Riau, and 11 in North Kalimantan.

Hotspots are coordinate points of an area with a higher surface temperature than its surroundings, and not the number of forest and land fire incidents.

However, a large number of clustered hotspots in an area indicates forest and land fires. This means that hotspot data from remote sensing satellites remains the most effective method for monitoring forest and land fires over large areas.
