Recent 4.2 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Ruteng, Manggarai Region

A recent earthquake measuring 4.2 magnitude struck Ruteng, Manggarai, on January 13, 2024. According to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake's epicenter was located on land, approximately 41 kilometers northeast of Ruteng, Manggarai.

The BMKG release stated, "Earthquake felt, Magnitude: 4.2 on January 13, 2024, at 03:26:17." The earthquake occurred at coordinates 8.28°S (South Latitude) and 120.64°E (East Longitude).

The earthquake was felt on the Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale in several areas, including Ruteng, with an intensity of III. An MMI scale of III means the earthquake was felt by some people but caused no damage or injuries. Light hanging objects swayed, and window panes vibrated.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded 12 significant earthquakes felt by the public across Indonesia in the past week, varying in magnitude and depth.
