According to the Statistics Indonesia (BPS), in 2025, Indonesia will have 626 forestry companies, consisting of 370 Forest Plantation Cultivation companies (HPHT) and 256 Forest Concession Rights companies (HPH).
HPH are companies holding Business Permits for Forest Utilization (PBPH) to utilize naturally grown timber forest products (natural forests).
"Their activities consist of logging or harvesting, enrichment planting, nursery cultivation, planting, maintenance, security, processing, and marketing of timber forest products," BPS wrote in its report.
Meanwhile, HPHT are companies holding PBPH in plantation forests, consisting of Industrial Plantation Forest (HTI) companies, Perum Perhutani, and other companies, to utilize cultivated timber forest products (plantation forests).
"Their activities consist of land preparation, nursery cultivation, planting, maintenance, security, harvesting, processing, and marketing of timber forest products," BPS explained.
Based on the BPS report, not all companies are active. In 2025, 321 out of 370 HPHT companies were active, with the rest being temporarily closed.
Meanwhile, out of 256 HPH companies, 186 were active, and the others were temporarily closed.
