According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), there were 238 industrial timber plantation (HTI) companies in Indonesia in 2024.
BPS defines HTI companies as those granted permits by the Ministry of Forestry to manage the utilization of timber forest products.
These HTI companies primarily produce logs and sap/resin.
In 2024, all HTI companies in Indonesia controlled a total land area of 7.9 million hectares (ha).
The largest portion of this land is located on Sumatra Island, accounting for 52% of the total national HTI concession area.
Followed by 41% on Kalimantan Island; 4.3% in Maluku and Papua; 1.5% in Sulawesi; and 1.2% in Nusa Tenggara.
Generally, 81% of the land controlled by HTI companies is used for crop cultivation.
Meanwhile, 16% is designated as protected areas, and approximately 3% is allocated for facilities and infrastructure.

Kalimantan

- Protected areas: 486.38 thousand ha
- Facilities and infrastructure: 37.91 thousand ha
- Total land controlled: 3.24 million ha
Maluku and Papua
- Crop cultivation: 289.67 thousand ha
- Protected areas: 21.87 thousand ha
- Facilities and infrastructure: 30.02 thousand ha
- Total land controlled: 341.56 thousand ha
Sulawesi
- Crop cultivation: 84.13 thousand ha
- Protected areas: 15.84 thousand ha
- Facilities and infrastructure: 16.19 thousand ha
