According to data from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Indonesia's average air temperature this year is hotter than in previous years.

In September during the 1991-2020 period, Indonesia's average air temperature was 26.6 degrees Celsius (°C).

However, in September 2025, the national average temperature reached 26.9 °C. This figure shows an anomaly, or is 0.3 °C higher than the average September temperature for the 1991-2020 period.

Not only in September, a similar anomaly has consistently occurred since January, as shown in the graph.

BMKG also estimates that the national hot weather trend will continue until the end of October or early November 2025.

According to Guswanto, Deputy for Meteorology at BMKG, the main causes of the current hot temperatures are the apparent movement of the sun and the Australian Monsoon winds.

These phenomena inhibit cloud formation, allowing solar radiation to reach the Earth's surface maximally.

"This position causes central and southern Indonesian regions, such as Java, Nusa Tenggara, Kalimantan, and Papua, to receive more intense solar radiation, making the weather feel hotter in many parts of Indonesia," said Guswanto in a press release on Wednesday (October 15, 2025).
