Number of Earthquake Disaster Victims in Indonesia 2020-2024

Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), sourced from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), reveals that 4,922 people were affected by and displaced due to earthquakes in Indonesia in 2020.

Meanwhile, there were 27 people injured due to earthquakes that year. In 2020, there were no deaths or missing persons due to earthquakes.

In 2021, the number of people affected and displaced by earthquakes increased significantly to 135,267, the number of injured increased drastically to 11,485, and the number of deaths and missing persons reached 122.

In 2022, the number of people affected and displaced by earthquakes rose to 191,167, the number of injured decreased to 8,360, and the number of deaths and missing persons increased drastically to 638.

In 2023, the number of people affected and displaced by earthquakes decreased to 104,226, the number of injured decreased to 82, and the number of deaths and missing persons decreased to 6.

Preliminary data for 2024 shows 112 people affected and displaced by earthquakes, 181 injured, and 1 death or missing person.

In early 2025, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported a surge in earthquake occurrences in Indonesia in recent years.

The head of BMKG, Dwikorita Karnawati, stated that as a mitigation measure, BMKG continues to strengthen its monitoring and early warning system by increasing the number of sensors and developing simulation models to anticipate the potential impact of disasters.
