After a Period of Increase, Indonesian Wild Honey Production Decreases in Q4 2022

Data from Indonesia's Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) shows that honey production from forests increased in several quarters of 2022. However, the volume decreased at the end of the year.

The 2022 Forestry Production Statistics report states that the volume of honey production in Q1 2022 reached 31,670 liters.

This figure increased to 48,570 liters in Q2 2022. Furthermore, production volume increased significantly in Q3, reaching 81,080 liters.

However, in Q4 it fell to 58,720 liters. Overall, throughout 2022, the volume of forest honey production in Indonesia reached 220,060 liters.

The website of the Indonesian Agency for the Standardization of Environmental and Forestry Instruments states that forest honey has a sweet taste produced by wild bees *Apis dorsata* and/or wild bees *Apis spp*. The honey is collected from the nectar of forest flowers/floral nectar or other parts of forest plants/extra floral.

In addition, the health website Halodoc mentions that several studies show that forest honey has nutritional value and antioxidant effects. Antioxidants are considered to be able to reduce oxidative stress in the body by eliminating free radicals.

"Oxidative stress is linked to various chronic health conditions, including many types of cancer. Consuming antioxidant-rich foods can reduce the risk of chronic diseases," writes Halodoc.

Furthermore, forest honey contains acids that help release oxygen from wounds, thus accelerating wound healing.
