Bekasi is Among the Top 10 Highest Flood Risk Areas in West Java

Bekasi was hit by severe flooding after heavy rain on Monday night (March 3, 2025) to Tuesday (March 4, 2025).

Bekasi Mayor Tri Adhianto stated that the city of Bekasi was temporarily paralyzed by the flood disaster.

"Today, the city of Bekasi is paralyzed. Even main roads, including government offices, have started to be inundated, with water coming in and out due to the extraordinary overflow," said Tri Adhianto, as reported by *Detik.com* on Tuesday (March 4, 2025).

According to the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), seven sub-districts in Bekasi City were affected by the flood: Bekasi Timur, Bekasi Utara, Bekasi Selatan, Medan Satria, Jatiasih, Pondok Gede, and Rawalumbu.

Meanwhile, six sub-districts in Bekasi Regency were also affected: Cibarusah, Serang Baru, Setu, Cikarang Utara, Cibitung, and Tambun Utara.

Based on data from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Bekasi is indeed on the list of the 10 areas with the highest flood risk index in West Java Province.

In 2023, the flood risk index for Bekasi Regency reached 21.83 and for Bekasi City 20.52. A score above 12 is classified as a high flood risk.

The BNPB measures this index using three main components: "hazard," "vulnerability," and "capacity."

The "hazard" component is measured based on the probability and intensity of flood events.

The "vulnerability" component is measured based on the population size, social, cultural, economic, and environmental conditions at risk of being exposed to flood disasters.

Finally, the "capacity" component is measured based on the ability to mitigate flood disasters at the regency/city level.

These components are processed into a final score with the following flood risk classifications: low (1–5.3); medium (5.3–12); and high (12–36).
