Meanwhile, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded moderate to heavy rainfall in the Jabodetabek area and its surroundings from December 31, 2019, to January 1, 2020. This caused the Katulampa water gate level to exceed 110 cm on December 31, 2019, at 10:00 PM WIB. The high water level at the Katulampa gate resulted in the Ciliwung River overflowing, causing floods.
The floods impacted the community, with many homes submerged and 16 deaths reported. In addition, the state electricity company (PLN) also cut off power in several flooded areas. Several road access points were also cut off, gas stations were closed, and KRL (commuter rail) services were disrupted due to the floods.
