Mount Ruang Erupts Again This Morning, Eruption Height Approximately 5,000 Meters

Mount Ruang in North Sulawesi erupted again on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at 08:35 WITA. In the last week, Mount Ruang has erupted 3 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed to reach 5,000 meters above the peak (5,725 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray to black with thick intensity towards the east and south. The eruption of Mount Ruang was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ruang is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on April 30, 2024, from 18:00 to 23:59 WITA showed 5 shallow volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 5-25 mm and durations of 35-50 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 141 shallow volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 3-30 millimeters and durations of 5-28 seconds, and 76 deep volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 3-55 millimeters, s-p 1-1.8 seconds, and durations of 6-30 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ruang and visitors/tourists to remain vigilant and not enter the 4-kilometer radius area from the active crater of Mount Ruang.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 603 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (200 eruptions), while Mount Ruang erupted 11 times.
