The International Institute for Management Development (IMD) assessed the competitiveness of five Southeast Asian countries in 2024. This assessment is part of the annual World Competitiveness Ranking (WCR).

Singapore topped the ranking with a perfect score of 100 points, climbing from fourth place in 2023. Singapore achieved 70.9 points for economic performance, 87.8 points for government efficiency, 96 points for business efficiency, and 77.1 points for infrastructure.

Thailand ranked second with a score of 72.5 points in 2024, rising from 30th place in 2023. Thailand's scores were: 64.3 points for economic performance; 55.1 for government efficiency; 62 for business efficiency; and 40.2 for infrastructure.

Indonesia ranked third with a competitiveness score of 71.5 points in 2024. Globally, Indonesia ranked 27th, a significant improvement from its 34th position in 2023. This mid-range position in Southeast Asia indicates Indonesia's considerable competitiveness. Indonesia's scores were: 54.3 points for economic performance; 57.5 for government efficiency; 71.4 for business efficiency; and 34.6 for infrastructure.

Malaysia scored 68.1 points, and the Philippines scored 52.6 points, placing below Indonesia.

The index is calculated based on 164 criteria. An online survey conducted between February and May 2024, with 6,612 respondents, also contributed to the ranking. Respondents answered questions about competitiveness on a scale of 1 to 6, with 1 representing the most negative perception and 6 the most positive. Survey responses formed 92 criteria in 2024.

All criteria were narrowed down to four key indicators: economic performance, government efficiency, business efficiency, and infrastructure. The assessment covered 67 countries worldwide.
