Cianjur Earthquake Casualties as of November 21, 2022

A 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck Cianjur Regency, West Java, at 1:21 PM WIB on Monday, November 21, 2022.

According to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), this natural disaster resulted in 46 deaths.

“The victims are at Cianjur Regency Hospital, and there are approximately 700 injured people, mostly suffering from fractures due to building collapses,” said BNPB Head Suharyanto, as reported by *Katadata.co.id*, Monday (November 21, 2022).

The most severe earthquake damage occurred in three sub-districts in Cianjur Regency: Rancagoong Village, Cilaku Sub-district; Limbangan Sari Village, Cianjur Sub-district; and Cugenang Sub-district.

The earthquake caused severe damage to 343 houses, 1 Islamic boarding school, 4 Cianjur government buildings, 3 educational facilities, 1 place of worship, 1 shop, 1 cafe, and caused road closures. Cianjur Regional Hospital was also reportedly damaged.

The 5.6 magnitude earthquake that shook the Cianjur region was also felt by residents in several other cities/regencies in West Java, reaching DKI Jakarta and Banten.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated that this earthquake did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami. However, BMKG still warned the public to be cautious of the possibility of aftershocks.
