Indonesia's Provinces with the Lowest Household Electrification Ratios in 2022: Eastern Indonesia Dominates

Electrification ratio is the coverage of electricity for a certain region. This ratio shows the comparison between the number of customers who have a source of lighting and the total number of households in an area.

Based on the report of the Indonesian state-owned electricity company (PLN) entitled *PLN Statistics 2022*, the electrification ratio in Indonesia has continued to increase year by year.

In 2022, it reached 97.63% with a total of 78,327,897 household customers.

This number increased by 2.62 million from the previous period (year-on-year/YoY), which had 75,726,553 customers in 2021.

Although the national trend shows positive development, several provinces in Indonesia still have an electrification ratio below 95% in 2022.

Of the 10 provinces with the lowest electrification ratio, 8 are located in Eastern Indonesia.

Papua Pegunungan is the province with the lowest national electrification ratio, namely only 12.09% in 2022.

Also from Papua, Papua Tengah and Papua Selatan provinces follow in the next rank with electrification ratios of only 47.36% and 73.54%, respectively.

Meanwhile, North Maluku province, which has an electrification ratio of 87.42%, is quite disparate with its neighboring province, Maluku, which has better electricity coverage, at 91.33%.

Meanwhile, Yogyakarta Special Region is the only province on Java Island to be included in the top 10 lowest with its electrification ratio reaching only 89.33%. The rest, as seen in the graph.
