The United States: The World's Largest Natural Gas Producer – What About Indonesia?

In 2020, the United States (US) produced 914.62 million cubic meters of natural gas. According to BP data, this contributed 23.73% to the world's total natural gas production, making the US the world's largest natural gas producer.

Furthermore, the US possesses natural gas reserves of 12.6 billion cubic meters, approximately 6.7% of the world's total natural gas reserves, which amount to 188.1 billion cubic meters. US natural gas consumption was 832 million cubic meters.

Russia produced 638.49 million cubic meters (16.57%), ranking second. This was followed by Iran with 250.79 million cubic meters (6.51%), China with 194.01 million cubic meters (5.03%), and Qatar with 171.32 million cubic meters (4.45%).

Next, Canada produced 165 million cubic meters (4.29%), ranking sixth. This was followed by Australia with 142.52 million cubic meters (3.7%), Saudi Arabia with 112.52 million cubic meters (2.91%), Norway with 111.45 million cubic meters (2.89%), and Algeria with 81.45 million cubic meters (2.11%).

Meanwhile, Indonesia's natural gas production last year was 63.15 million cubic meters (1.64%), ranking twelfth. This placed it below Malaysia, which ranked eleventh with production reaching 73.19 million cubic meters (1.9%).
