Survey: Majority of Public Agrees with Subsidized Fuel for Public Transportation and Motorcycles

A national survey by Indikator Politik found that the majority of respondents agree that fuel subsidies (BBM) should be targeted at public transportation and two-wheeled vehicles.

According to the Indikator Politik survey on Fuel Price Increases, Fuel Subsidy Redirection, and Presidential Approval Rating, 52.2% of respondents agreed that subsidized fuel should only be for public transportation and two-wheeled vehicles. Specifically, 12.3% strongly agreed and 39.9% agreed.

Meanwhile, a significant portion of respondents, around 44.2%, disagreed. This breaks down into 31.8% somewhat disagreeing and 12.4% completely disagreeing. Furthermore, 3.6% of the public claimed to be unsure.

The survey also revealed that the majority of the population uses Pertalite fuel, approximately 88.5%. Other usage figures include Pertamax at 56.9%, Bio Solar at 28.2%, Pertamax Turbo at 25.9%, and Pertamina Dex at 24.7%. In addition to having the largest number of users, Pertalite is also the most frequently used on a daily basis, with approximately 78.3% of users purchasing it at least twice a week.

The national survey on Fuel Price Increases, Fuel Subsidy Redirection, and Presidential Approval Rating was conducted between September 5th and 10th, 2022. The survey population comprised Indonesian citizens aged 17 or older, or who were married, and who owned a telephone, representing approximately 83% of the total national population.

A sample size of 1,215 respondents was selected using the random digit dialing (RDD) method, a technique for randomly selecting telephone numbers. The survey's margin of error is estimated at 2.9% at a 95% confidence level, with interviews conducted by telephone by trained interviewers.
