PLN (Persero) has recorded a renewable energy (RE) potential of 102.74 megawatts (MW) in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

This RE potential consists of various sources, namely micro-hydro and water (PLTMH and PLTA), wind (PLTB), solar (PLTS), biomass (PLTBm), and ocean currents (PLTAL).

At least 19.2% of the RE potential in NTB is still dominated by PLTMH, amounting to 19.74 MW. Other RE development potentials include PLTA at 18 MW, PLTB at 15 MW, PLTS at 10 MW, PLTAL at 20 MW, and PLTBm with a potential of 20 MW.

Of the total potential, 61.38 MW is located on Sumbawa Island, 21.36 MW on Lombok Island, and 10 MW each in the Lombok Strait and Alas Strait.

Currently, RE usage in NTB is 39.55 MW, utilizing two types of natural resources: water and solar power. The energy mix composition for RE is 17.23 MW for PLTMH and 22.32 MW for PLTS. The total is 39.55 MW out of a total power generation capacity of 284 MW.

PLN acknowledges that the RE development process is still quite long. PLN continues to conduct several studies, for example, regarding operational feasibility, namely how the impact of the operation of these RE sources on the existing electricity system.
