There are currently 10 oil refineries in Indonesia, owned by both PT Pertamina (Persero) and private companies. Of these 10 refineries, the Cilacap refinery in Central Java, operated by Pertamina, is the largest.
This Residual Fuel Catalytic Cracking unit in Cilacap was inaugurated by Vice President Jusuf Kalla on November 26, 2015. It is the largest of Pertamina's six refineries, with a production capacity of up to 348,000 barrels per day. The Pertamina website notes that this refinery, built in 1974, supplies 60% of Java's fuel needs and 34% of Indonesia's. Besides fuel, this refinery also supplies non-fuel products and petrochemicals.
According to data from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the second largest refinery is Balikpapan, with a capacity of 260,000 barrels per day, followed by the Musi refinery with a capacity of 127,300 barrels per day. The smallest refineries are owned by PT Tri Wahana Universal (6,000 barrels per day) and the Cepu refinery (3,800 barrels per day).
